Trials and Tribulations

A really awesome thing happened to me during the making of this album.  Specifically with Soldier (track 2).  It started out as me opening my project to begin composing and somehow, my computer's SSD drive had failed to save the project correctly.  My three-minute project, at that point, was ruined.  The VST's I had loaded into the project were missing and replaced with something that I couldn't view.  When I played my track in logic, I was greeted with this wall of noise and high pitch "song-like" notes fluttering about.  I was quite scared at first, so Instead of starting again I bounced it out and edited this mysterious sounding piece of music.  Now the sound you will hear below is the foundation of Soldier, the aethereal and trance like sound is what lies underneath all of the instruments within the piece.  The workaround to getting my original project back was fairly easy but time consuming, I had to go back into logic and re-load all of my VST's manually.

Here is some field recordings I took for my tracks.  They vary from wind, materials and bird song!  This was recorded using an iPhone 8 and a USB SK-30 microphone.

The Photos and The Inspiration

The gallery above is a highlight reel of the phots I took myself for both Soldier and Hiraeth.  Mind only needed one photo as the image selected for that track was the inspiration behind the whole album.  Soldier's images needed a monument or some sort of battle theme for it and I eventually chose the middle image as it represented a sense of fight and struggle.  Hiraeth need a horizon and a beautiful landscape to signify hope and strength, as a closing theme for the album the image I chose was perfect as it had a strong horizon and a very bright sky.  The images, if you look closely, gradually get lighter to signify a sense of a great weight being removed within the album.  For the album cover however, I went for an underwater shot since it signifies a sense of drowning that can often be a feeling describe with people who experience depression, however, the bright sun and light blue colours also give a sense of hope giving it a much-needed juxtaposition.
