Track one

Title: Phase One

About:

This track is the beginning of my FMP and will be the first track the listener will come across.  Using what I found out in my research I have created an ambient/noise track that symbolises the worst of depression.  The Avant Garde style combined with deep synths, music concrete and subtle piano melodies creates the dead and lonely atmosphere that one may come across when experiencing depression.

Track two

Title: Soldier

About:

This is the second track in the album and is a balance between ambience and post-rock.  I listened many different styles of ambient tracks and post-rock tracks to build this track.  Some techniques within post-rock include heavy amounts of large reverbs (hall and plate), along with the use of a delay effect on the main guitar.  The middle section introduces this guitar, as a subtle and pillow-like synth and piano section carries underneath.  Further towards the end of the track before the listener is submerged into the ghost-like recording I edited with my computer, the guitar evolves into a distorted and distant lead, due to the fuzz pedal that is applied.   

Track three

Title Hiraeth

About:

This is third and final track of my FMP and will be the last thing that the listener engages with.  This is a hopeful, natural and orchestral piece of music that resembles the future of someone who is coming out of a depressive phase, in which they have good things to look forward too.  Combined with light synths, piano, strings and an ambient sound design the listener, at the end of the journey, will come out feeling happy and hopeful for the future.  However, using “out of the ordinary” musical elements such as including a sharpened and flattened 7th and blending the major and minor key of D creates a strange ambient effect that leaves a sense of uncertainty.
